Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.
– 1 Peter 1:16
The Lord commands that His people- Be ye holy; for I am holy (1 Peter 1:16).
This is a tall order- one that requires self-discipline and humility.
Self-discipline can be accomplished in the flesh- a product of human nature- and is thus, our responsibility.
True Humility, on the other hand, is of a spiritual nature. Therefore, it depends on the condition of our heart before God Almighty- requiring the power of the Holy Spirit to impart.
Self-discipline in our walk with the Lord will lead us to daily meditation upon the Word of God; to a prayer life that seeks for Gods will to be done- self-seeking prayers cease as humility increases; and to a life of greater faith resulting in greater obedience.
An unbalanced life- a life void of self-discipline or residing in pride will not yield fruit in keeping with repentance. Instead it will be a blinded life of stumbling and doubt- a poor representation of a child of God- one who is not truly set apart in holiness.
