But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.– Hebrews 11:6
Jesus said it Himself in Luke 18:8, “…when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Ouch!!!! I wonder then, will He find me faithful? How about you, will He find you faithful upon His return? Of course we all like to believe that He will! Let us not be so quick to think we will be counted so, however, especially when we remember the disciples!
Those men that walked with Him for THREE years- and they didn’t just walk at a distance- No, they were close- hearing firsthand the very Words of God; seeing His miracles performed live, in the flesh; seeing one prophecy after another fulfilled! Yet, when that fateful night of betrayal arrived they did not stand by Him; they did not come to His defense; they all scattered and Peter even went so far as to deny Him 3 times!
They all left Him after having been so close! I pray to remember them- their denial and betrayal- as I go about my daily life during my time here on earth! I pray to not fall prey to self-righteous justification- fooling myself into a sense of false security! A Pharisaical trap leading to a faithless life off the path of salvation! I pray to be and to remain faithful to Him in all things!
In order to do that I must first know what faith actually is! According to the Word of God it is the very basis of our salvation- we are saved by faith through grace! And Hebrews 11:1 gives us a succinct definition- Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
As Believers, Jesus is to be our sole Hope! Yes, we are to have hope in His finished work on the cross that brings us to newness of life! We did not see Him crucified in the flesh upon that cross but the evidence to us that it actually occurred- a real historical event- is the fact that sin and its death-leading results has been crucified in us!
Being born again is the evidence of what was not seen by me and it happened through Jesus- the Only way it can! Knowing this to be true I am now led to a deeper faith that everything else- the promises of God- spoken by the Word (Jesus upon whom I trust) will come to pass just as He declares! Therefore, I hold fast to His promises with faithful assurance no matter what comes my way! This is the only way to please Him- we must believe that He Is!
