Visits From God

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

– Genesis 15:1

Have you ever had a visit from God? If you confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior you most certainly have! Perhaps during this visit God told you that there is something or someone you must let go of or perhaps there was something you were to do?

Sometimes God will visit us through literal burning bushes, sometimes through the mouths of others, and often times through the still small voice of the Holy Spirit! Regardless of His method of delivery our job is to listen, to always pray for discernment, and, most importantly, to obey!

When God visited Abraham (Genesis 15:1-18) a big promise was made! The entire vision and plan communicated! Abraham believed God, despite the obstacles in the way, and that belief led to his obedience. This faith Abraham displayed was counted to him as righteousness setting the standard for all who believe on Jesus Christ to follow.

The more we walk in obedience to God’s will for our life, a will that is always in harmony to His word, the more good fruit we will bear. Those who do not pay heed to the visitations they receive from God, but instead doubt what has been revealed to them, be it in part or in whole, will be incapable of bearing good fruit despite their best efforts. Their lack of faith will be counted to them as unrighteousness (Matthew 12:33-37).

The Lord is not slack concerning His promises towards us, be they big or small. He is faithful to strengthen and sustain us as we walk in obedience to His will (Psalm 21). We need only to trust and obey as we listen for and await our next visitation.
