But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.– Daniel 12:13
That is a heavy verse of scripture to meditate upon but an important one to remember especially considering all that is going on in the world around us. When you find out that the whole truth of life; the meaning of all things; the answer to all questions; and the beginning and the ending (which has already been written but is still to come) is all found in and through Jesus Christ things suddenly, and with great relief, become so simple (Or at least they defiantly should)! Jesus has defeated death and hell; He has taught us by His example the way; He has given us His Holy Word; and He has sent those of us who genuinely believe on Him the Holy Spirit to guide us, convict us, correct us, and comfort us! Easy! Our way is laid out and it is so easy!
That is why the Lord tells Daniel that he now knows enough to continue on “…thy way till the end be…” Daniel, just like us, had been given enough truth to sustain him until the end! How blessed are we that we have been given even more than Daniel, however, because the Holy Spirit has come and the whole counsel of scripture has been assembled into the Holy Bible that we have widespread access to today? We are sure without excuse when it comes to our complicating and diverting from the righteous path set before us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
He continues to point us in the way, yet we have a tendency to ignore His promptings: perhaps we do not read His word for ourselves but rely on our Pastors to teach us? Perhaps we do not pray ceaselessly due to our unwillingness to be truly obedient in one area or another? Perhaps we are holding on to sin in some area?
These tendencies to ignore, downplay, or divert from the easy path of following Jesus and worshipping God in Spirit and in truth stems from our continued insistence of relying on men to save us, lead us, and give us the answers as well as on the continued short-lived fulfillment we receive when we give in to the lusts of our flesh and the lusts of our eyes, and from the boastful pride that comes as part of our sinful human nature!
We must resolve to simplify! We must resolve to take Jesus at His Word! He is a man that keeps His promises! It is by and through Him that we live and have our very being- do we think ourselves (or any other human man for that matter) higher and more capable than Him? We must face the truth so that we can live simply as He intends us all to do! Casting our burdens on Him and walking in faithful obedience until the end!
