A Warning in the Word

But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

– Mark 4:4

These are the words Jesus spoke to Satan when he tempted Him in the wilderness. I urge us all to pause and read those words over again at least 3 times- “But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

What do we generally find ourselves and everyone else around us doing though? Look around and we will find almost all of us attempting to live in every way we can possibly imagine that is apart from, and the exact opposite of, “…every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God!”  As a result, we then will find that none of us are actually living at all; that we are, in fact, truly the walking dead! We are merely existing when we are apart from the Word: abiding in the world and not in Him. We are empty and looking to be filled; we are lost and looking to be found; we are in danger of hell fire but ignoring all of the warnings the good Lord sends our way!

Let us consider this such a warning RIGHT NOW and resolve to listen and take heed thereof! Our ways will not, and simply cannot, save us! Our physical health- the food that we consume to nourish and fuel our bodies- all of it is useless in the end if our lives were wasted on vanity, on fulfilling our lusts, on prideful exploits, and material attainments. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” – Mark 8:36-38
