This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.– Matthew 15:8-9
Sometimes I feel like Job: not in the despairing, I would have been better off if I had never been born way; but in the way he had to sit and listen to the ramblings of his acquaintances. Ramblings that they were very sure of but that, unbeknownst to them, were lacking in the ultimate standard of Truth found in the Word of God. We have all met folks like this- we encounter them daily- it’s likely that we share a home with one or two of them. They profess to know the Lord but all you hear from them are their opinions- opinions that just might have a little standard of Truth (scriptural basis) thrown into the mix that if you yourself are not aware of the ultimate truth either will only serve to confuse you and draw you away from the Standard which is Christ Jesus.
What I mean is, if you do not have a true relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ, you will easily fall prey to the advice, opinions, and ramblings of those around you because you will not have a stable foundation to rest your mind upon. Confessing Christ without obedience; confessing Christ without humble, sincere seeking of the Truth found only in Him leaves one vulnerable to succumbing to the commandments of men: to what us humans think the answers are; to our opinions; our perceptions. A fatal, vain way of living that produces only destruction and death!
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. – Proverbs 14:12
There is freedom in Christ Jesus- true freedom- freedom from opinions, freedom from having to guess what truth is, freedom from trying to solve the worlds problems, freedom from fear, true freedom. This freedom can only be had- truly obtained and engraved in our hearts, our minds, our spirits- when we willfully surrender our lives to Him in all things; when we commit to follow Him in Spirit and in Truth by seeking Him in His Word- our first commitment and desire; and when we obey His commandments willingly. Our opinions become solely based on His truth; our hearts desire on His glory alone; our allegiance to Him only, above all else!
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. – Matthew 16:24
