Soul Satisfaction

The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

– Lamentations 3:24

It is one thing to emphatically declare loyalty and love for the Lord Jesus when things in life are going smoothly for us and to our liking; it’s another thing altogether to maintain that loyalty and love when the storms rage and things are going every which way except the way we wanted. It is in these trials and tests of life that our faith can grow, or our love go cold! It is in the dark that we must hold onto the Light- no matter how small the glow may be- for He has assured us that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

What if He thinks it best that we do not get that promotion or raise; that the reconciliation with our family that we so desperately desire never comes; or the physical healing of our loved one, that results in their prolonged life here on earth with us, does not occur? Will we be satisfied in His sovereign will? Will we continue to trust Him despite the hurt? Will we remain faithful? Will our joy still be evident as it surely should?

The Lord makes us so many promises, all of which He can and does keep. He is a man of His Word. We can hope in Him! He should be our only hope! We will be disappointed every time if we put our faith and trusts- our idea of obtaining happiness- in anyone or anything other than Christ Jesus! For it is not our wants and desires; our ideas of what is best and what we consider worst that will fulfill us to the satisfying of our souls! No, it is through the Lord alone that our satisfying portion can truly be found! Hoping in Him is fail and fall proof! For even if we fall it will be temporary when our hope rest in Him, our trust in Him alone, as He will raise us up on that last day to the saving of our souls for His glory!

Everything is set to pass away! Only what we do for the Lord will last! Even if we become disappointed; are betrayed; are hurt and lonely, we can praise God that these things are temporary as He has promised to wipe away the tears from our eyes and that we will have no more sorrow when we reach the other side!

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. – Revelation 21:4
