No Escape

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

– Hebrews 2:3-4

When I think back over the period of time that the Lord was calling me, drawing me to His perfect way and truth, I become overwhelmed and awed once again by His greatness and His love. He simply left me no way of escape- there was and is no way around or past so great a salvation- a salvation that not only saves but also sets free! The Lord began calling and drawing me through His Word- the Holy Bible- when I was just a young girl. Years later, as a young adult, He continued to call through His Word and added the testimony of various others to stir my mind and heart and give me just enough belief. Just enough for this terribly lost gal to hang on to the hope that what I had heard was The Truth. Therefore, ‘I believed’ based on shallow hearing of the Word and it was enough to keep me from denial of faith but yet not enough to turn me from my sins to the point of repentance.

Time passed and the draw of the Lord intensified to the point that when I look back at that period of time I can hardly comprehend the lengths the Lord went to so as to get my attention and begin to remove any doubts I had that He is real and His Word is truth. It was then that God began to really bear witness, both with signs and wonders, that His Son Jesus is the ONLY way to Him. I have often longed to put into words what the Lord did for me during that time as a way to bring others to Him but my tongue has yet to be fully released. I wonder why and I believe it is because He wants me, and all of us who are His children, to rely on His Word, and thus solely on Him, to evangelize the lost. His final pull at my spirit and soul was the realization that the Holy Spirit had come to dwell within me and that I was no longer the same. I had been reborn.

This is the cycle of being saved- for some it is shorter, for some longer- but nevertheless it is the same. He will call and He loves us so much that He will call again if we do not answer the first time. He will send witnesses to testify to His truth and He will confirm it with signs and wonders. Then if we listen, if we see, if we hear, if we believe, He will send His Holy Spirit to live inside of us.
