Stuck in The Valley

And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

– John 6:3 KJV

When we earnestly seek after the truth, we will eventually come to realize that it is found in God. Once we accept the fact that He is the keeper of the Truth we will continually be pointed to Jesus as the Only way to grasp, obtain, and understand said Truth. It is up to us to then choose whether we will or will not go the way of Truth found in Christ alone.

If we pay close attention as we are seeking the Truth, we will catch many glimpses of Jesus and become keenly aware that He has come to meet us exactly where we are in the moment. The Lord of lords and the King of kings comes down from His thrown in Heaven to bid us to come up to Him. He wants to show us the way of Truth! He wants to set us free from the lies that encamp around us and rear their ugly heads every which way we turn! When was the last time He came down into the valley to visit with you? Did you recognize Him?

Are you learning from His teachings and growing in your walk of faith? Or are you constantly asking Him to come down to your level and meet you there; stuck in your walk down in the valley where you try to survive on milk alone? Are you, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth (2 Timothy 3:7)?

What is stopping you from obtaining the knowledge of the truth; from moving from spiritual milk to spirit and life satisfying meat? What is keeping you from ascending from the valley up into a mountain of a solid faith built on the perfect foundation which is Jesus Christ?

Is it laziness that keeps you from moving forward? Perhaps you do not read the Word of God choosing instead to read a couple of scripture verses and a daily devotional passage everyday as a substitute for the real thing (sadly this is all too common). Perhaps you rely on others to feed you the Word and, as a result, you are left starving as you are tossed to-and-fro from one mans opinion to anothers. Perhaps you just call on the Lord whenever it suits your fancy or you feel the need as you choose to neglect Him the rest of the time.

Whatever the case may be for you; if you are stuck in the valley there is only one way out; there is only one way to get up into the mountain; there’s only one way to move from being a believer in Jesus to a disciple. It starts with the daily reading of His Holy Word; Truly reading it- chapters at a time: faithfully- devotedly- passionately- hungrily! If you lack any of those things- pray to receive them. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and the that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened (Matthew 7:7-8).

As discernment and understanding are granted you, be willing to obey what you glean from the Word- regardless of your opinions, wants, and desires. Trust and obey just like the hymn of old teaches us with each refrain. Denying yourself as you take up your cross and follow after Him. Then, before you even realize it, you will find yourself sitting with Jesus in the mountain- your faith multiplied, built layer upon layer upon a firm foundation, your way sure because you have tasted and seen that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him (Psalm 34:8).
