And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.Luke 23:8
Indeed it is true that when some people come face to face with Jesus their lives are altered forever in response to the truth, grace, mercy, and love that emanates from His very presence!
These people fall in love with their God! A love that shines into all they do and all that they are as they grow in closer and closer relationship to their Redeemer!
This love pours forth from them without their expectation of anything in return! There is no this for that mind set among these folks. What is among them is like minds set on Christ!
They realize what it cost their friend, and now Brother, to free them from the petty and superficial love of the world (a world in bondage to its sin) and they long to show their thanks and give all of their praise to Him.
King Herod, gives proof that Not everyone who sees Jesus face to face will have this beautiful response! Unfortunately, like Herod, many who see Jesus will seek to gain whatever they wish so as to fulfill their own selfish wants and lusts. We see this all the time! People who only call out to the Lord when they want something from Him in return.
Their love is that of the world- self-seeking rather than self-sacrificing; naturally destructive instead of life-affirming; and temporal over eternal. This conditional love is inpatient, temporary, and carnal! It gives no place for true resting or blessing!
Have you seen Jesus?
What kind of love do you show?
