Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.John 21:18
It’s one thing to say that we have surrendered to the will of God but it’s quite another to actually live out that surrender.
What will be our response when God tells us to give up or stop something He previously called and sent us to do? How about when He tells us to go somewhere we never in our logical minds planned to go because it did not seem to fit the narrative of our current life nor our ideas of its future trajectory? What if He asks us to do something outside of our comfort zone, such as, quit our job; move away from family; or say no to someone’s request of us?
Will we listen to Him then, in keeping with our surrender, or will we make excuses in an attempt to justify our disobedience?
We can successfully fool ourselves for a while into thinking that we are actually doing His will- Twisting things to fit the narrative we have created in our minds! All the while we are, in reality, simply running from God!
Remember how most of us proudly proclaim that we would never disobey Our Heavenly Father in such a blatant way?
Yet, many times, we can be found running away from His call and direction towards the wants and false safety of our carnal lusts!
There’s a price to be paid for false surrender!
The lack of faith and belief it demonstrates grieves God and brings sorrow and woe to our own lives. Blessings are thrown away in favor of a temporary comfort that will lead to our regret and shame.
May we resolve to achieve true and lasting surrender! Jesus surrendered all on our behalf! He gave us the perfect example to follow of what a surrendered life looks like! A life filled with the Holy Spirit of God that goes when and where and how the LORD leads!
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. – John 3:8
