Flexible Discipline

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

John 17:21

Discipline is key for any disciple of Christ! That might sound restrictive at first thought yet it leads to just the opposite if executed faithfully in the hope and fear of the LORD God Almighty. A flexible discipline rather than a concrete, man-centered, tradition building discipline. The later leads to staleness and to the quenching of the Holy Spirit whereas the former leads to more freedom and to a heart and mind perpetually renewed in Christ.

What does a flexible discipline look like in practical terms?

It takes its shape from a child of God who knows that they must feed on the Word of God daily- not just snippets of scripture from a devotional but actual reading and prayerful meditation on that infallible Word.

It’s praying without ceasing! Sometimes formally for a set time at a set place, sometimes with others, and sometimes in the utterances of our spirits without actual words required.

It’s a process of sanctification which leads the child of God towards holiness in Christ! Things of this carnal world begin to loose their appeal- as that disciple changes from living a life of sin unto death to a life lived for Jesus their wants, desires, and hopes transform as their inner man is reborn!

A disciple with flexible discipline has a sure foundation- a life built upon the Rock who is Jesus Christ! This life will look different for each individual child of God but these elements will be found amongst them all- a commonality that gives further proof to the existence and everlasting life of Jesus Christ!
