Staying The Course

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

2 Timothy 3:14 KJV

Ok, so we started!

We managed to push past the excuses and we succeeded in beginning!

Now here comes the hard part!

Wait! I thought starting was the hard part?

Oh, it is BUT- so is continuing!

If we wish to succeed we will have to stay the course- and continue!

The beginning of our Christian walk can be confusingly exhilarating! We are so excited because we have found the truth in Jesus!

Our minds are increasingly being set free as we manage to navigate through the lies that surround us utilizing the Holy Word of God as our faithful guide! We make good gains as we begin to study the Word and build our foundation upon the only solid rock that will allow us to stand no matter what trials and obstacles come our way!

We have Jesus now as our friend, our Saviour, our Redeemer, and our Lord! It seems we are unstoppable as we zealously follow after God!

Ah, but check back in with us in a few weeks, a few months, a few years!

Check back in with us when the cares of the world and the naysayers and wiles of the devil have worked to get us off course!

Will we find that we have continued what we once so intensely began?

Are we still searching and studying the Holy Bible everyday?

Are we still setting aside precious time for prayer? (Preferably in the early morning which naturally leads to ceaseless prayer throughout the day! This is, after all, the model that Jesus gave us to follow (Mark 1:35)!

Is our mind still set on Christ? Or have we wondered from the narrow way?

Have we looked at how much time has past and wonder what we have done with it? Has it been spent for the LORD?

Do we have a longing inside of us for that closeness we once had with Jesus?

Any of us who have been walking with God for a while can look back at certain times when our fellowship was so strong with Him! When almost every thought we had was centered around Him- those precious times of great spiritual growth in true understanding and wisdom!

It’s likely that when we look back on those times we will realize that they were in the beginning! Maybe the very beginning when we were babes in Christ? Maybe in the beginning following a life changing experience? Or perhaps right after going through a time of darkness in the valley?

As we look back at those beginnings we would do well to mentally note the things we did during those times that facilitated our growing closer to God- those habits and set times and ways and means we utilized to fan the fire of our spirits desire for oneness with Our Creator- so we can put them into practice again!

No matter what it is we have started- how do we think we can continue anything without Him?

He is our first love, our firm foundation- Jesus Christ!

Everything that we attempt to build outside of Him will crumble like a house built upon the sand!

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; (2 Timothy 3:14)
